How it works

Toolasy compresses your PDF entirely on your device. Each page is rendered to an image at the quality you choose using a built-in PDF engine, then a brand-new PDF is rebuilt from those images — a technique that reliably shrinks scanned and image-heavy documents. Because nothing is uploaded, your file stays private and there's no waiting on a server. Working with several files? You can merge or split PDFs first, or turn pages into pictures with the PDF to JPG converter.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a PDF?
Drop your PDF, choose a quality level (Low, Medium or High), then click Compress PDF. Each page is re-rendered and re-saved on your device, and a smaller PDF downloads instantly — nothing is uploaded to any server.
How does the compression work?
Every page is rendered to an image at the resolution and JPEG quality you pick, then those images are rebuilt into a fresh PDF. Lower quality means a smaller scale and stronger JPEG compression, which produces a smaller file. This rasterize-and-rebuild approach reliably shrinks image-heavy and scanned PDFs, and it runs entirely in your browser.
Will the text still be selectable after compressing?
No. Because each page is converted to an image and the PDF is rebuilt from those images, the original text layer is not preserved. You cannot select, copy, or search the text in the compressed file. If keeping selectable text matters, use the High quality setting to keep pages sharp, or keep the original PDF for editing and use the compressed copy only for sharing or emailing.
Which quality should I choose?
Low gives the smallest file and is great for quick email attachments or previews. Medium balances size and clarity for most documents. High keeps pages the sharpest at a larger file size — pick it for print-quality or detailed scans. Try one setting, check the resulting size shown after compressing, and switch if you need smaller or clearer output.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The whole process happens locally in your browser using a built-in PDF engine and canvas. Your file is never uploaded, stored, or sent anywhere — open your browser's Network tab while compressing and you'll see zero document traffic.
